Study Finds That 35 Percent Of PDA Users Would Choose Their Device Over Their Spouse

On the way to work this morning, I was listening to a story on the radio about how a survey conducted by Sheraton (yes, the famous hotel chain) revealed that 87% of those interviewed admit that they bring their PDA or iPhone (iPod Touch) to the bedroom at night. I was shocked that the percentage was that high. I was also feeling guilty because I fall into that 87%.

My wife, while also listening to this information, shot me a knowing look. My best form of defense was to keep my mouth shut and hide my iPod.

I use my iPod Touch, which now has the iPhone 2.1 OS loaded on to it, for checking email, social networking, and listening to music. This coming January, I am planning to move up to the iPhone G3, but after hearing the results of this survey, I am going to have to change some of my geeky habits.

The survey also revealed that 35% would pick using these devices over spending time with their spouse. It really struck a chord with me how email and the social networking craze has changed the way we view our relationships.

Some other shocking statistics from the survey:
84% check their email right before nodding off.
80% check their email as soon as they wake up.
62% claim they actually love their PDA or smartphone.

Personally, I would never place an inanimate object over my wife, or fall in love with an electronic device, no matter what it could do for me. My wife is warmer, much prettier, has a set of beautiful blue eyes, and keeps me a lot more up to date on my current situation than my iPod Touch ever could. I just wish I could turn her navigation feature off from time-to-time when I'm driving.
