HOWiezine 12 - Nightmares & Dreamscapes

These are my finished composition pages for the 12th volume of the HOWiezine themed, "Nightmares and Dreamscapes."

This is the front side of my page.

I wanted to do a photo collage of different elements to reflect a nightmare. The main theme for this dream being "Rejected."

I added many various elements to the collage that tie to some of my personal phobias (i.e., fear of grasshoppers - Acridophobia and Atychiphobia - fear of failure) along with some other deep rooted emotions.

The rainbow waterfalls reflect creativity being drained from my soul. The money being eaten by maggots reflects my view of corporate greed and how easy it is to get tied into it all. And the rejected stamp ties into my fear of being shun by my contemporaries.

This is the backside of my page.

I wanted the page to reflect the inside of a mask. My dream mask. The metaphor being that dreams are like a mask I wear when I sleep. As soon as I wake up, the mask becomes deeply embedded into my subconsciousness never being seen by outsiders.

I will be adding a step-by-step later to show the process I went through to create these compositions.

Enjoy!

US Currency Tracking

Last night while bowling in our league's final night, I received a dollar bill as change from the snack bar. The bill looked like your everyday George Washington with one exception, on the bill's face was stamped in red ink the following statement: "See where I've been; Trace this bill; www.wheresgeorge.com"

I didn't give this message much thought until I went to place a dollar down for the next round of bowling poker and again noticed the red type just to left of George's portrait. Out of curiousity, I kept the bill and decided to play along.

I went to the where's George website and entered the required info into the provided interface. They asked for serial number, bill date, where I received the bill, and a small bit of info describing how I received it. Once the information was entered, I discovered I was the first person to enter info on this particular bill since it was placed into circulation 55 miles north of where I received it. It took 33 days, 15 hours, 51 minutes to reach me.

Here are the results from my bill to see for yourself.

From information provided on the wheresgeorge.com site, I was surprised to see that this project has been around since December of 1998. The site also has links to stats covering different bill denominations and the journey each bill has taken to date. In addition, the site offers a comprehensive FAQ section and you can even sign up to be a member and start your own bill tracking.

So, the next time you see a dollar bill with something stamped onto it, pay attention. It could be one of these bills offering you a opportunity to play along and keep track of where your money has been and where it is going.
